Annual Report

This report provides parents and members of the wider community with an overall picture about our school, its programs and the performance of our students during 2016. As stated in our Business Plan, staff at Canning Vale Primary School are committed to creating a dynamic learning environment in which children will develop academic, physical, social and creative skills to become active and responsible global citizens.

2016 saw the implementation and ongoing monitoring of the Delivery and Performance Agreement through the Business Plan 2015 – 2017. A delay in the school’s Independent Review from 2017 to 2018 allowed for further refinement of the Plan. Teachers continued their learning journey by up skilling their knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum, excellent student achievement was evident in all year levels as were high standards of student behaviour. Diverse student leadership opportunity was reflected in Years 5 & 6. Our focus learning areas remained English, Mathematics and Science but, as you will read in this report, throughout the year teachers introduced strategies and learning opportunities through technologies. Throughout 2016 there continued to be many opportunities for all children to shine; through participation in school and interschool sporting competitions, school choir and musical performances, visual arts programs, and a multitude of extra curricula activities, many of which are highlighted in this report.

Canning Vale Primary School prides itself in the active and authentic participation of parents throughout the school and I would like to express our deep appreciation of such partnerships. The school is strongly supported by the Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) and the School Board. Additionally, the School Volunteer Program grew in strength. Partnerships outside the school, in particular with Notre Dame and Curtin Universities further enhanced student learning opportunities.

I also acknowledge and applaud the committed, dedicated and hardworking Canning Vale Primary School staff. This includes the cleaners, gardener, office personnel, education assistants, library officer, Chaplain, teachers and members of the Executive Team. Together we have created a safe and inclusive learning environment, where individual difference is respected and excellence is applauded. It is expected that all staff and students will know the strong and meaningful words of the School Song and Code, both of which are significant at every assembly and major school event.

Pride, excellence and respect underpin our purpose. We strive to develop in our students:

  • The confidence to dream, believe, create and succeed in a changing world;
  • The desire to learn so as to reach their full potential;
  • The commitment to develop environmental responsibility and a social conscience
